Today is the last day of my Shakeology cleanse and it is amazing the difference. Truthfully, I'm usually very skeptical of cleanses and detox programs, especially as someone with a pretty healthy, natural foods diet to begin with. Once I juiced for two days (with a real juicer and fresh organic fruits and veggies). I had to pee a lot and felt good, but certainly didn't drop any weight. Not this time, Shakeology is legit.
Start to finish I lost 3 pounds, which at 5' 6" and starting at 138 pounds is a pretty big accomplishment. No more bloated looking belly to the point that I can actually really see my abdominals when I contract them. I've had a strong core for years, but my stomach is by far my biggest trouble spot and the very last place I lose fat. Needless to say I'm thrilled with my results and will be repeating this cleanse every 4-5 months (sooner if I find myself spending too much time giving into my sweet tooth).
Don't worry, I'm not going to leave it at that. Now for the drawbacks of the whole experience. Sometimes I was definitely hungry and had to cheat a couple of times with a handful of almonds or an extra piece of fruit and I did the whole thing making my shakes out of unsweetened almond milk as opposed to water as it is typically suggested. My argument for why these cheats were not bad or overboard is that I completed Insanity: Asylum workouts on two of the three days which are extremely intense workouts that burn a lot of calories and by handful of almonds I mean maybe 8 almonds once or twice in a day. I was a little tired and lightheaded too, but that's pretty standard with any detox, especially for me who seems to have a pretty sensitive head. But neither of those symptoms were enough to really disrupt my life.
Overall, I loved it. I feel good, I feel light, and I don't feel like I've missed out on anything over the last few days.
Tips for anyone who wants to try the cleanse:
1. Drink lots of water, something I did not do enough of
2. Make sure you can really commit 3 days to it without being tempted by going out to eat with people or going out for drinks or something. I felt good on days 1 and 2, but it wasn't until day 3 that I really saw that my body had changed
3. Prep beforehand. Buy all the things you'll need, keep your blender or blender bottle clean, and cut up your salad ingredients beforehand and separate into bags so they are ready to go (just hold off on the protein and salad dressing). Being prepared like this means there won't be that easy temptation of "I don't have time to make that right now, so I'll just have this pre-made (read unhealthy processed crap) instead". Trust me on that, I am the queen of excuses.
